This past Shabbos, Behar-Bechukosia, Bochurim that learn`t 107 Hayom Yom`s by heart For Yud Aleph Nissan, went on a Shabbaton, to Chabad in the Heartford area, we thank Shluchim Rabbi Samuels, and Rabbi Wolvovsky, for thier hospitality. Pictures and details coming soon.
For the past two weeks the Bochurim have been having lots of extra learning going on, every Sunday and Wednesday evening they take part in S.I.T.S. (Sichos in the sun) on the front lawn of the Yeshiva, followed by original, mouthwattering refreshments.
The Bochurim are also enjoying a new initiative by the Shluchim to learn many of the practical Minhagim, as well as the reasons we do them, the Mivtzah is called "Custom Made" (Custom=Minhag).

Sorry about the delay, there were some very important Yud Shvat Hachanos (Farbrengen) to take care of immediately following the raffles and prize ceremony.
We will G-D willing post a full list of the winners and what they received, as well as the video the Bochurim watched (right now uploading to youtube) soon.

The winners of the competition were Shiur Alef, ending with over 2200 Osiyos.

The Bochurim Surprised the Shluchim with a big, hand-drawn, thank you poster, signed by the Bochurim.

Following the raffles, and announcement of the winners, the Bochurim sat down to a Farbrengen with Rabbi Noam Wagner, of Johannesberg, South Africa. the Farbrengen began at 10pm, and continued well into the night.

This morning after Chassidus and Davening, the Yeshiva boarded the Bus to the Ohel, they then continued on to Crown Heights.
(The Yeshiva Bus will be leaving Crown Heughts Sunday morning).

Tonight YBDS will take part in the Hakkhel of all Yeshivos, learning Basi Legani in 770. They will then proceed to the Farbrengen in Beis Rivkah.

Tonight at 10:00ET the Mivtzah came to a quick stop as Bochurim tried to squeeze in their last few Osiyos by heart! and now we begin to count the totals, and work out the WINNERS!! Lots of pictures, and the final winners to be posted over the next twenty four hours!! as well as news on tomorrow nights Farbrengen, and the winners of the raffles.

We know its been a long time since we have posted any news on the blog, unfortunately we have not had proper access to our website for a few days, as well as being very busy testing the Bochurim on אותיות by heart for the Mivtzah in preparation for Yud Shvat.

Mivtzah updates: 1. this week all classes have reached the 1000 אותיות mark.
2. as the competition`s end nears, its fierceness grows, with each of the classes trying to ensure their position in first place. the first place winners will be treated to a trip of snow tubing! other classes that reach 1500 אותיות will have a barbecue and Slurpee`s.
Important: the Shabbos off has been delayed to next week, so that this one can be use out as a הכנה for Yud Shvat. the new schedule is: Wednesday morning (Feb 4) Yud Shvat, the Yeshiva Will go to Crown Heights. Thursday their will be Seder for Bochurim that have remained in Crown Heights. Sunday morning, at 11:00am the Bus will leave back to Yeshiva.

-On Shabbos afternoon, Shiur Gimmel had a Farbrengen in honor of the birthday of Hatamim Lippi Kosofsky, The Farbrengen was hosted by Rabbi Eli Bogart. Hamshpia R` Levi Matusof of Oholie Torah Farbrenged for a few hours.

Yud Shvat!!

As the competition between the classes increases, Bochurim can be seen in Zal well after Seder, diligently memorizing what the Rebbe said in the days and weeks following the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe.
The Yud Shvat Mivtzah the Shluchim put together consists of three parts: 1) Memorizing the Sichos of the Rebbe following Yud Shvat. 2) Memorizing the Maamer “Basi Legani”. 3) Filling out a Duch to be delivered to the Ohel.
The Rebbe instructed that for every ten days (of the thirty days of preparation for Yud Shvat), one should be tested as to where he has reached thus far in his preparations. As such, all three portions of the Mivtzah are also divided into three; for each of which there will be a separate raffle.
Each of the raffles includes several prizes, including Seforim sets, an Ipod, camera, and more... The class that collectively learns the most of תש"י (what the Rebbe said following Yud Shvat) will go snow tubing!!

whew! what a kick off!! With such an exciting Chanukah, a real Chanukah miracle in our times was necessary to retell (and take the time to post on "dovidshlomo"). Here we gooo...
Well I guess it all started when someone said there were some interesting cars outside... everyone went zipping out, still zipping up there winter gear to assist with the now freezing weather. Once outside, we were greeted with the site of not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR SUV stretch Hummers, Escalades, and Lincoln limousines, ready to take us to the menorah lighting/parade. At the "Green", the mayor of New Haven and Attorney General of Connecticut (A Yid), were both there to take part in the menorah lighting with all the news in tow (click here for one of the news articles) and a videographer (for sentimental purposes).
When the parade ended back at yeshiva, all of us went inside for a great carnival accompanied by an endless supply of jelly doughnuts and Latkes. This was followed by a Chanukah play which the community (and myself) thoroughly enjoyed- from the comedy to the songs, we were all riveted to our seats until the end.

All in all, we are having non-stop excitement this Chanukah! So stay tuned for more to follow, including some follow up videos and pictures.

Yud Tes Kislev (slide show included).

It began as a community Yud-Tes Kislev Farbrengen (formal).
We all enjoyed as 'master of ceremonies' Shliach Yossi Denberg, recounted the story of Yud-Tes Kislev. This was followed by a few words from Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Kalmenson, and a siyum on one of the "Mesechtos" taken on by a community member last year on Yud-Tes Kislev, and then a very beautiful speech from Rabbi Butman (head Shliach of Westchester county, NY).
Afterwords, the crowd went out for a short "recess" as the tables were put together for the less formal part of the Farbrengen.
Rabbi Butman kept the bochurim`s attention for well over five hours, as he challenged them to strengthen there kesher to Chassidus & ensure that their parents' investments in tuition brings in a nice profit; throwing in some of his exciting stories here and there. The night`s memories are still fresh in many young minds!

What can we do it has to happen, so, we might as well make it enjoyable. The evening was opened with our menahel Rabbi Lustig emphasizing to the bochrim, the importance of making sure that during the summer, our Yiddishkeit is demonstrated on a very practical, basic level. He was followed by Rabbis Roth and Borenstein. Habochur Hatomim Menachem Mendel Gurevitch represented the bochurim in general and SHAGAM in particular. Hashliach Ari Weingarten spoke on behalf of the Shluchim, who earlier received a beautiful token of appreciation from the Yeshiva. Yosef Deitsch represented the Hanhola Gashmis, awards were handed out to the best learners and 'ovdim ( with an ע') ' and achievements were recognized. Moshe Block and Moshe Epstein who finished the entire Masechta Succah Baal peh (with Rashi and Tosafos) and were Farhered by Rabbi Kalmenson made a siyum followed by a short speech from Moshe Epstein. The evening concluded with the prize giving ceremony for Mivtza Pirush Hamilos followed by Farbrengens late into the night.

Abot a month ago, the Shluchim initiated Mivtza Pirush Hamilos. Each week a different part of Davening was designated to be learnt, a shiur was given on the background and a written test had to be filled out. In addition, there was a bonus part of Davening each week. In all, over the 3 week period, Birchos Hashachar, Mizmor Shir, Boruch Sheamar, Ashrei, Yishtabach, Ahvas Olam, Shema, Shemone Esre, Uvo Letziyon and Alenu were learnt. Boruch Hashem, despite being the end of the year, the majority of Bochrim participated and will surely use this Mivtza as a stepping stone in their continued growth in Avodas Hatefilla. Siyum Harambam

This past Sunday night, Yeshivas Beis Dovid Shlomo celebrated the 26th Siyum Harambam. With the zal beautifully set up, the program began with MC Hashliach Dovid Blecher saying over a Dvar Malchus. This was followed by Rabbi Y. Hodakov of Chabad Westville who emphasized the importance of every bochur learning Rambam according to his level. Our Rosh Hayeshiva Rabbi Kalmenson made the Siyum, followed by Rabbi Y. Deren, Shliach to Stamford, Connecticut who made the Haschola. Rabbi Deren spoke about the Rebbe's involvement in working out the Luach, and how Siyumim regularly fall out on significant dates. Following the Siyum, Rabbi Deren farbrenged with the bochurim, emphasizing the importance of learning in the summer.

MISHMAR 5768

This past Thursday was the conclusion of what has been, a wonderful year of Mishmar. Headed by Hashliach Shlomo Bogart and ably assisted by Shiurs Gimmel and Beis, Mishmar provided the children of the New Haven community with a wonderful experience, week after week. Learning, games, plays, stories, trips, you name it Mishmar 5768 had it. As a special end of year treat, all participants received a complimentary cap emblazoned with the Mishmar emblem. In addition, this past Sunday there was a exciting trip to bowling followed by a BBQ. A big thank you to Shlomo Bogart and all the bochrim that made Mishmar 5768, the greatest year of Mishmar so far.

In keeping with, "אין לך בן חורין אלא מי שעוסק בתורה", the Shluchim prepared a special Kovetz for Bein Hazmanim of Yemay Pesach. Included in it, was a letter of the Rebbe regarding Bein Hazmanim, learning material for each day (Halacha, Gemoro and Chassidus), a daily Duch and questions on the learning. In order to enter into the raffle, one had to fill out more than 80% of the duch and answer 85% of the questions correctly.

A Present To The Rebbe

In honor of Yud Alef Nissan, the Rebbe's 106th birthday, the Shluchim arranged a Mivtza of learning Sichos Baal Peh. The Mivtza, which ran for about a month before the end of Zman, involved learning the Sichos and then getting tested on a number of columns at a time(varying depending on shiur), explaining orally the content of the sicha. There were a number of raffles and automatic prizes were given out for all those, who learnt a certain amount. The main target was 106 columns, which B"H over 10 boys reached. Each of them received a set of Seforim. B"H over 2000 columns of Likkutei Sichos were chazzered, surely bringing great nachas to the Rebbe. The Mivtza was also Liluy Nishmas Hatomim R' Matisyahu Aryeh HY"D ben HRH"T Avrohom Weingarten. May it be Hashem's will that in the zechus of all that which was learnt, we merit the coming of Moshiach Now!

This Chanukah the Shluchim (ועוד) arranged a traveling Chanukah troupe that travelled around performing by different Shluchim, Synagogues, JCC's א.ד.ג. In honor of the completion of the Mivtza Hachana for Yud Tes Kislev, Shiur Aleph went to Farbreng with Rabbi Jaffe, the Shliach to the Shoreline.

Rabbi Jaffe spoke to the Bochurim about his early days on Shlichus and the tremendous success one sees when staying strong to the Rebbe's message of being a Ner Leha'ir. He went on to complement the Bochurim on their achievement ~~and then told some funny stories about when he was a bochur in Yeshiva~~.

All in all a great time was had by all. Keep up the good work, Shiur Aleph!

I promise you, there was some serious farbrenging going on, not just singing.

Rabbi Denberg expertly MC'd the "official" part of the Farbrengen. The Community/Yeshiva heard from some of the Magidei Shiurim as well as the local Rabbi of Young Israel Rabbi Cypess.

Later on Hatomim Binyamin Adelman made a siyum on Meseches Bava Basra.

Afterwards דער עולם איז צוגעזעצען צום טיש and the Farbrengen began.

Last year, Shiur Gimmel 67' had an idea to interview different Chassidim that were involved in different projects of the Rebbe. Amongst the interviewees were: Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Dr. Feldman and Rabbi Zalman Posner.

The edited versions of the interviews were shown in Yeshiva. Watching these interviews created a tremendous excitement amongst the Bochurim, having gained an in depth understanding of many of the basic mechanics that functioned by the Rebbe.

We have now decided to make available the footage that we have. Content will be added slowly as time permits. Our first few uploads are of an interview conducted by Naftalie Charter. In this interview he talks with Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, who served for many years as a Choizer by the Rebbe regarding the formation of the Likutei Sichos.

The Yeshiva was priveleged to host R' Shlomo Zarchi for Shabbos. After Seder Niggunim on Friday night, Hashliach Yechiel Kalmanson repeated a Sicha. Rabbi Bornstein Davened Kabolas Shabbos.

After Shachris there was a very big Farbrengen in honor of Yasef Deitsch's Yom Holedes. R' Shlomo Zarchi Farbrenged with the Yeshiva and Anash of New Haven. The Farbrengen continued until Mincha.

New Mivtza!

Today after Mincha, Hashliach Yisroel Cohen announced a new Mivtzah that the shluchim wil be starting.

Every day after Mincha, during the short break before Girsah begins, one of the shluchim will give a short shiur on an Igros for the Rebbe that is especially pertinent to Bochurim.

Mivtzoim Bags! Now that's appreciated!

The shluchim arranged for every bochur to have their own designated Mivtzoim bag. Every friday the bags are filled with the proper amount of brochures, Neshek etc and each pair of bochurim pick up their fully loaded bags are ready to head off.

Ok, so the details are as follows: The Mivtza was kicked off during the Farbrengen last Thursday night and will be continuing until Yud Tes Kislev. During that period of time, each bochur is encouraged to fill out his Duch to the max.
There are three categories that each bochur is encouraged to place more effort. הכנה לתפלה: Make sure to go to Mikveh before Shachris as well as to be sure to wash Negel Vasser before each Tefillah. תפילה כחסיד: Be sure to wear a hat and jacket when saying Brochos in the morning as well as when saying Krias Shmah at night. שיעורים: Be sure to learn the daily shiurim of Chitas and Rambam. At the end of the Mivtza each Bochurs Duch will be sent in to the Rebbe as well as individual rewards for the bochurim who put in the proper effort.

In a throwback to old times, Friday night the bochurim ate out at the homes of the local Balebatim. Peretz Mochkin said a Mamer during the Shabbos day Seder Niggunim.

Every Thursday night, there is a big Inyunei Geulah UMoshiach Shiur given by a special guest. This week the shiur was given by Rabbi Yehoshua Rosenstein who is one of the shluchim to Yale University.

As they did last week, this week the shluchim once again arranged for Mishmar night for the kids of New Haven. A great time was had by all (including the kids :-)) During the second half of the program some bochurim from shiur Gimmel put on a skit about the Parsha.

Another succesful Peula by our dear Shluchim!

Last night (Tuesday) the shluchim arranged an evening of learning and inspiration for Anash of New Haven. An assortment of Shiurim were offered on different topics, given by Rabbis Kalmanson, Bornstein and Levitin. There was also one on one learning provided by the shluchim.

A big Yosher Koach to our Shluchim; may this accomplishment propel them to continue to lead and inspire.
